Game Day Guacamole

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not much of a football fan. However, growing up in a football family never left me much of a choice in participating in game days. I quickly learned to find things that I DO enjoy…tailgates, squares, and most of all…the food.

Yes, football fans sure know how to put out an impressive spread of food. During football season I often find myself dreaming, not of playoffs and fantasy teams, but of hot wings and jalapeño poppers.

But nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats a good chip dip! The possibilities here are endless. One dip I can guarantee will be a hit at any game day, or party in general, is a fresh, HOMEMADE guacamole.

That’s why I needed to share this game changing recipe with all of you!

Game Day Guacamole

Assemble the team! I try to use fresh ingredients as often as I can and this is a perfect opportunity for that.

Grab three ripe avocados, one lime for juicing, one small white onion, two firm Roma tomatoes, and some fresh cilantro. If you’re looking for more of a kick add in one diced jalapeño.

Toss the avocado in a large bowl with the lime.

Then use a fork or masher to mash the avocado. You can leave it chunky or make it smooth (use your personal preference).

This is also a great way to get your kids involved in the kitchen. My toddler LOVES mashing with our mix ‘n’ chop!

Now to spice things up! Add in 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of cumin, 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper, and don’t forget the garlic (1 clove minced)! You can also add in a tbsp of cilantro. For me, this is the most important step. Nobody wants bland guac!

Dice and stir in your tomatoes and onions (and optional jalapeño). I prefer to use my manual food processor for this because it’s faster and results in less tears from the onion!

If you have a little helper in your kitchen this is another great job for them.

Now it’s time to chill and serve with chips!
